Lindsay mattick5/13/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Milne’s classic stories will be enchanted by this heartening account of the bear’s real-life origins. The visuals not only complement the fablelike cadences of Mattick’s text but also include subtle details that enrich the story-the opening pages, for instance, recall a storybook forest before melting into the surroundings of Cole’s bedroom, where he hears the story of Colebourn and Winnie. Blackall’s warm, beautiful gouache-and-ink illustrations capture an impressive depth of feeling, even in relatively simplified faces. There Christopher Robin met Winnie and the rest is literary history. Winnie accompanied the soldiers all the way to England, where Colebourn eventually took Winnie to the London Zoo. Though officers in Colebourn’s division were initially aghast that he would bring a wild animal along, they were quickly won over by her irrepressible charm (and appetite), and the bear, named Winnipeg after their hometown, became the division’s mascot. A fateful whistle-stop encounter with a gentle bear cub begins the historic friendship, when Colebourn buys the cub for 20 dollars. Finding Winnie narrates a real-life bear’s story, which takes place during World War I. Mattick worked in public relations for many years before deciding to write a story of her own, and Finding Winnie received numerous awards and widespread critical praise. Framed as Mattick telling a bedtime story to her young son, Cole, her tale begins in 1914 in Canada, when veterinarian Harry Colebourn, her own great-grandfather, sets off to join the war in Europe. It’s a picture book best suited to young readers. Mattick’s family ties to Winnie-the-Pooh form the backbone of her cozy debut. ![]()

Married by morning kleypas5/12/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Catherine Marks was an extremely interesting heroine as she has plenty of spunk and independence that put anyone to shame, but she also harbors a dark past that makes her distant towards any kind of men, especially towards Leo and it was that part of Catherine’s personality that I found the most interesting about her character since I rarely read about heroines whose dark pasts makes them have trouble trusting anyone. But the two characters that I was most fond of were Catherine Marks and Leo Hathaway as they were the two most unusual yet interesting hero and heroine I have ever read about. Wonderful, wonderful work Lisa Kleypas! Lisa Kleypas has certainly done an excellent job at writing a story full of drama, mystery and sizzling romance which made this novel worthwhile for any romance novel fan! I also loved the character development that Lisa Kleypas incorporates into her characters as I truly sympathize with their situations and it was also nice seeing all of the Hathaway family together again and the mischievous antics they get into. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This information is ideal for people who are just getting started and do not want to cut a hole in their savings doing what they love. Virgil reassures Dante, again, that no one can stop their journey and asks him to remain where he is, because Virgil will not abandon him. On the one hand, you may find comfort knowing that there’s a better than good chance what you are experiencing is not a sign of a more significant problem. You can look at the fact that a wide range of change, distress, and emotion is “expected,” “typical,” or “normal” in life after loss in several ways. Confusing! As one of our favorite authors, Viktor Frankl, wrote, “ An abnormal reaction to an abnormal situation is normal behavior.” Though this is purely anecdotal, I think most people who experience a significant loss go through moments of feeling like they’re losing it. After spending most of your life feeling somewhat “normal,” the terrifying and unknown territory of grief can feel very abnormal. In grief, it’s normal to feel not normal.
